U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, BLS, says that all workers’ real average hourly wages went up by 0.2% in March results of the survey (April 13, 2023).
Seasonally adjusted, the average real hourly wage for all workers increased by 0.2% from February to March, according to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, BLS, report on April 12. This is because the average hourly wage increased by 0.3 percent, and the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.1 percent.
The change in real average hourly wages and a 0.3% drop in the average workweek caused real average weekly earnings to drop by 0.1% over the past month.
Seasonally corrected, the average real hourly wage decreased by 0.7% from March 2022 to March 2023. The change in real average hourly earnings and a drop of 0.9% in the average workweek led to a drop of 1.6% in real average weekly earnings during this time.
People who do work but don’t supervise others. Seasonally corrected, the average real hourly wage for production and nonsupervisory workers rose by 0.3% from February to March. The average hourly wage increased by 0.3%, and the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) didn’t change.
The change in real average hourly earnings, plus the fact that the average workweek didn’t change, made real average weekly earnings go up by 0.3% over the last month.
Seasonally corrected, the average real hourly wage increased by 0.5% from March 2022 to March 2023. The change in real average hourly wages and a 0.6 percent drop in the average workweek led to a 0.1 percent drop in real average weekly wages during this time.
